Film Review

A wonderful movie, one of Sally Fields best! Of coarse it is true that movies after the book are never equal to the book, but this movie comes DARN CLOSE!! Woodward is also an excellent performance. I 100% agree with the comments that say that it is about time already that this movie needs to be DVD released SOON!!The most important achievement that I feel that this movie accomplishes in it's conveyance of Sybils' story, is that it draws the viewer into a compassionate relating to the main character. She(Sybil) has a very child-like innocence, yet still retains a strength of character and unsinkable spirit that enables her to survive horrendous abuse. It is this strength of her spirit that enables her to keep her mind just beyond the devastating reach of insanity's grip. And it is that mixture of child-like innocence, and unsinkable strength that makes her a very likable Hero to the viewer.

I can't say enough about this film. It's breathtaking, lovely, amazing, and overwhelming all at the same time. You will be drawn into the characters and want to hear their backgrounds and dimensions. Months of therapy and breakdowns get to the source of Sybil's despair. Once you see some of Sybil's flashbacks you'll never forget them. Not only that, you may reflect with them.I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a film that is off the cuff from the normal standard fairy tale. If you enjoy a "could be true" life drama, life experiences, and the amazing separation between reality and the body's unique defense mechanism, protectors, and self survival – you WILL love this film.

I am not sure if anyone has commented on the ending, but I loved it! I am a huge movie buff, and this movie touched me a great deal. The ending contains her hugging herself under hypnosis, but she is really hugging one part of herself named Peggy. It was beautiful, and it makes me glad that I am an actress. Sally Field makes me truly believe that telling someone's story to the best of our ability is the most precious thing that we can do as actors and actresses. We add our own needs and wants and wishes to the character. We attempt to humanize them and show who they really are. Their triumphs, sufferings, loves, and hurts. We even show the most of what they loathe. This movie is an inspiration to everyone. Joanne Woodward was also wonderful in The Long Hot Summer and The Effects of Gamma Rays on Man On the Moon Marrigolds. Hopefully I spelled that right….Anyway, the film was wonderful, and I am thrilled that I had the honor of seeing it.
